Mike was born and reared in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University for his undergraduate work, as well as law school. He graduated from law school and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1982.
Mike began his legal career as a law clerk for Judge Henry Yelverton with the Louisiana Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He then was employed as a land attorney with Chevron U.S.A., Inc. Mike returned to Lake Charles in 1986, practicing primarily in the area of real estate law.
Mike is a member of various National, State and Local Bar Associations and Committees. He was appointed to the Louisiana State Bar Association's Uniform Title Standards Committee in 1991 and is an admitted member of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys. Mike has been certified as a real estate instructor by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission. He taught the McNeese State University paralegal program course on real property law from 1992 to 1994, and has been a guest lecturer at Gulf South Real Estate Institute. Mike is an approved title attorney for almost all of the lenders that do business in the Southwest Louisiana area. He is a mediator for MAPS (Mediation Arbitration Professional Systems) and is the author of the article "Avoiding Title Problems in Probate" Trust & Estate Law Report Vol. 2 No.1.
In addition to residential and commercial real estate, Mike's practice includes work in the fields of succession/probate, commercial, oil and gas, and collection law.
Mike has been an active member of the Lake Charles Young Men's Business Club including receiving their Outstanding Member Award in 1989. He was President of the South Lake Charles Kiwanis Club (1995 - 1996) and the club received the Multiple Service Project Award from the Louisiana - Mississippi - W. Tennessee District of Kiwanis International for projects completed in his year as President. Mike is active in his church having served on the Board of Directors and as a chairman of its Haiti Mission project. He has also served as chairman of the Episcopal Day School Advisory Board and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southwest Chapter of the LSU Alumni Association.
Mike is married to the former Jacqueline McCarty and they have three daughters: Laura, Rebecca, and Ellen.
