Dangerous Drugs in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi
Our firm has decades of experience in representing victims of serious injury from dangerous drugs. Drugs are meant to help better the lives of people suffering from various conditions and illnesses. However, many drugs have dangerous side effects causing serious injury and even death.
Our firm, with lawyers based in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi, is currently investigating litigation on the following dangerous drugs:
Vioxx®
Celebrex®
Bextra®
Accutane®
Crestor®
Zyprexa®
Neurontin®
Serzone®
Vioxx®
After a three-year study identified Vioxx® as a defective drug due to increased risk of heart attack and stroke in patients, Merck, the manufacturer of Vioxx®, voluntarily pulled the arthritis drug from the market on Thursday, September 30, 2004. Residents of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas injured by Vioxx® can contact the lawyers of Lundy & Davis about pursuing claims against the manufacturers of such dangerous drugs.
The prescription drug Vioxx® was popularly prescribed to patients for osteoarthritis treatment. Recently, concerns about health risks caused a decline in Vioxx® prescriptions. Now that these health risks have been confirmed, patients should continue taking their medication and contact their primary care physician for information on other treatment options. If you or your loved one has suffered a heart attack or stroke while taking Vioxx®, the lawyers of Lundy & Davis can help. To learn more about pursuing Vioxx® claims in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi or Arkansas, please contact our attorneys today.
Celebrex®
While it has not been recalled by FDA, some studies have shown that Celebrex® may pose similar health risks to Vioxx®. Both arthritis drugs have been linked to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Celebrex®, Bextra®, and Vioxx® are in the class of drugs known as COX-2 inhibitors. The benefit of Celebrex®, in addition to being a powerful pain reliever, is that the medication is not supposed to irritate the gastrointestinal system, like traditional NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). However, recent evidence points towards side effects similar to Vioxx®. If you or a loved one suffered a heart attack or stroke while taking Celebrex®, our lawyers can evaluate the case. Contact our attorneys in Texas, Louisiana, or Mississippi today!
Bextra®
Pfizer Inc. has recently added a warning to the label of Bextra®, another popular COX-2 inhibitor taken for pain relief. This warning is based on studies showing that patients who have already had a heart attack were more likely to experience further heart problems if they were taking Bextra® for pain relief. A previous FDA warning cautioned doctors about serious skin diseases that have been reported by patients taking Bextra®. If you or a loved one suffered a heart attack or stroke while taking Bextra, contact the attorneys of Lundy & Davis for a case evaluation.
Accutane®
Accutane® is an oral medication prescribed to treat individuals with severe nodular acne. Although Accutane® has proven effective in treating acne, the drug does have significant side effects. Pregnant women should never take Accutane®, as it has been shown to cause birth defects. Furthermore, in 1998 the FDA issued a warning to doctors prescribing Accutane®, which cautioned them to monitor patients for signs of depression. There have been numerous cases of mental problems reported for patients taking Accutane®. These problems range from irritability to severe depression, in some cases involving suicidal thoughts. In fact, a number of lawsuits have been filed by the relatives of Accutane® patients who succeeded in taking their own lives. Residents of Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana who know someone who has been injured by the side effects of Accutane® can contact the lawyers of Lundy & Davis for help.
Crestor®
Crestor® (rosuvastatin) is a drug prescribed to lower cholesterol levels in patients with high cholesterol. Crestor® is one of the statin drugs, a group of medications that have come under greater scrutiny after Bayer Pharmaceutical Corporation recalled its popular drug Baycol®. When used in high doses, particularly in combination with gemfibrozil, Baycol® can cause rhabdomyolysis in some patients. Rhabdomyolysis, the breakdown of muscle tissue, can have dangerous consequences, including liver damage or failure. A number of deaths have been attributed to Baycol®. Some studies on Crestor® have shown that, at doses of 80mg, it can also cause rhabdomyolysis in some patients. If you know someone who suffered from muscle weakness or kidney problems while taking Crestor®, that person should be made aware of the drug's dangerous side effects.
Zyprexa®
Zyprexa® is an antipsychotic medication prescribed for treatment of schizophrenia and different forms of bipolar disorder. Some physicians have prescribed Zyprexa® as a non-FDA approved treatment for insomnia, attention deficit disorder, and anxiety. Several studies have suggested a connection between Zyprexa® and high blood sugar, diabetes, and diabetes related illness. Other serious side effects include hyperglycemia, ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, and dramatic weight gain. These side effects could result in a coma or even death. If you or know someone who sustained injury from the side effects of Zyprexa®, contact the attorneys of Lundy & Davis today!
Neurontin®
Neurontin® is an FDA approved oral medication prescribed as anti-seizure medicine for epileptics. The drug’s manufacturer marketed Neurontin® for a number of non-label uses such as treatment of bipolar disorder, migraines, Lou Gehrig’s disease, and restless leg syndrome. Studies have shown serious side effects for Neurontin® users. Mild side effects included headache, nausea, and drowsiness. Serious side effects included memory loss, infection, vomiting, diarrhea, and suicidal tendencies. Residents of Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana who know someone who has been injured by Neurontin® side effects can contact the lawyers of Lundy & Davis for help.
Serzone®
Serzone® is an oral anti-depressant medication used to relieve feelings of guilt, sadness, loss of appetite, insomnia, and other symptoms of depression. It also goes by the generic name nefazodone. Some Serzone® users have experienced severe liver problems. There have even been a number of cases of liver failure and death due to liver failure associated with Serzone® worldwide. If you or a loved one has suffered from using Serzone®, contact the lawyers of Lundy & Davis for help.
